Classical? Yes. Predictable? Not even close. Conductor Kevin John Edusei takes the podium for a program that zigzags through the 20th century with zero apologies. It starts in the brilliantly offbeat world of Igor Stravinsky’s Petrushka — just a little unhinged. Then things get wild. Frank Zappa’s The Yellow Shark selections bring electric energy and a sense that anything can happen and probably will. It’s theatrical, unpredictable and seriously fun. And then, a classic with swagger. Pianist Makoto Ozone performs George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, where jazz meets the concert hall in one of the most iconic American sounds ever written. This is a night that breaks the rules and has a great time doing it.
